Protection against humidity: Everything you need to know about the leakage test on your HYMER motorhome and Camper Van
How long does a leakage test take?
As a rule, you can take your vehicle back with you on the day you bring it to the workshop for a leakage test. The duration depends on the size of the vehicle, the number of different measuring points and how easy it is to reach the measuring points.
Why is an annual leakage test important?
To keep your vehicle for a long time, it is important to have a regular leakage test carried out. This is because a high level of moisture in the vehicle interior and in the vehicle body can quickly cause major damage and lead to wet walls or mould. In the worst case, expensive repairs are then necessary.
The annual leakage test gives you the guarantee from your HYMER service and dealer that no moisture will penetrate your vehicle from the outside. In particular, connections such as roof vents, pop-up windows, feed sockets, pop-top roof, connections, drill holes and joints in the floor, wheel arch covers, side wall, front wall, rear wall and roof are checked.
If a leak occurs, your service and dealer will eliminate the leak and professionally repair your vehicle.
Why are there leaks in the vehicle at all?
Moisture can penetrate the vehicle as a result of seal wear, as well as temperature changes, heat and cold and other environmental influences. The age of the vehicle and the amount of driving (movement and vibrations that affect the vehicle) can also have an influence on the wear and thus the tightness of the individual materials.
How does a leakage test work?
The moisture content of walls, openings, flaps and windows is determined at a HYMER service centre or dealer using a moisture meter. Other points such as roof vents, installation windows and important edges and connections are also checked. The value of the moisture measurement should not exceed 20%. During the measurement, your vehicle is also subjected to a visual inspection. All important points in and on the vehicle are inspected again.
If a leak occurs, the service and dealer will initiate appropriate measures to ensure that your vehicle is no longer affected by leaks in the future. Any moisture already present inside the vehicle is removed. A final check is also carried out to ensure that the vehicle is safe.
Of course, there is nothing to stop you from taking your own measurements to check the moisture in your vehicle. Please note that your own measurements are no substitute for a visit to a HYMER service centre or dealer and that these measurements are not suitable for maintaining your leakage guarantee.
How often should you have a leakage test carried out?
To maintain the leakage guarantee of your Hymer Van or motorhome, you must have an annual leakage inspection carried out by a HYMER service centre or dealer. You can find the data for your leakage guarantee on your vehicle's warranty registration. You also have a waiting period of +/- 6 months to have your inspections carried out.
Summary: Your HYMER leakage test at a glance
An annual leakage test on your HYMER motorhome or Camper Van is crucial to prevent moisture damage and maintain the 6-year leakage guarantee.
