The water filter does not need to be removed; it can remain in the system. Conventional disinfectants can also still be used. After cleaning with disinfectants, the system should be thoroughly rinsed (approx. 10 litres) before using the fresh water.
If you are already using second-generation cartridges, you can, if you wish, simply remove the hygiene element for the duration of the cleaning process. This means it does not come into contact with the disinfectant. However, this is not strictly necessary.
