Showering, cooking, washing up: When traveling in a motorhome, you need fresh water for many tasks. How big the water tank in the vehicle has to be is therefore a crucial question - after all, you don't want to suddenly find yourself stranded.
Below you will find out what is important in the calculation and how long 100 liters of water could last on this basis.
Calculate your own water requirements in the motorhome
How many days you can last with fresh water in your motorhome depends on your individual water consumption. To make an assessment, consider which tasks require water in your case and how much water is needed for them.
These include, for example:
- Cooking: approx. 2 liters per person per day
- Drinking water use (also for coffee and tea): approx. 3 liters per person per day
- Toilet flush: approx. 4 liters per person per day
- Shower and daily hygiene: approx. 25 liters per person per day
- Washing and cleaning dishes: approx. 8 liters per person per day
The person in our example therefore consumes around 42 liters of water every day. Depending on individual behavior, the actual value may be higher or lower.
By the way: You can find the capacity of the respective fresh water tank in your HYMER motorhome under “Technical data” in the detailed view. You can access this by clicking on your favorite in our overview of all motorhomes.
The size of your travel group now determines how long 100 liters of water is sufficient in the motorhome:
- For two people with the stated needs, it is just over a day.
- If both people do not shower in the motorhome, the time window is extended to around three days.
- If two people use the facilities of a campsite for food, toilet, shower and daily hygiene, 100 liters will last even longer.
React to every supply situation with canisters
How big your fresh water tank needs to be in a camper or motorhome is very individual. If you like to travel far from campsites and rarely have access to running water, 100 liters may not be enough for long.
One option is to top up your water supply with filled canisters. These must be well secured and included in the permissible total weight. If both are guaranteed, you can quickly fill up the water tank using canisters.
Conclusion: The water supply in the motorhome depends on many factors
It is impossible to say in general terms how long 100 liters of water will last before the faucet in the motorhome stops producing a drop. However, with a little calculation you can find out your individual needs in no time.
