Winter camping offers a unique opportunity to experience the tranquil beauty of nature and get away from it all. Before you start your HYMER Motorhome or Camper Van, you should adapt your leisure vehicle to the conditions, you will find all the information you need in this article: How do I winterise my motorhome?

There are a few important points to bear in mind to ensure a safe and enjoyable adventure:

  • Book your pitch in good time, as it is well known that good winter campsites are fully booked early.
  • Do not start without winter tyres and ideally start well equipped, including snow chains.
  • Select a suitable parking space: Pay attention to the surface, snow and ice can thaw. Then release the parking brake to prevent freezing.
  • Please keep the built-in forced ventilation systems free of snow and ice.
  • Ensure good circulation to support good air circulation, which prevents moisture and makes the living area easier to heat.
  • Cover the single-glazed cab windows with insulating mats to avoid thermal bridges. Discover matching HYMER Original Accessories: To the products
  • Use a two-cylinder system with automatic changeover for the gas system so that the supply does not run out during the night.
  • Only operate the gas system with propane gas.
  • Do not use the space behind the heater as a storage compartment.
  • Do not operate catalytic ovens and infrared gas heaters inside the vehicle, as they extract oxygen from the interior for combustion.
  • Lay the 230 V supply cable of the cable reel in such a way that the cable cannot freeze or be damaged (e.g. when clearing snow).
  • In heavy snowfall, regularly remove snow from the roof of the vehicle. A few centimetres of powder snow provide insulation, but wet snow quickly becomes a load weighing several tonnes.
  • Clear the roof completely of snow before driving so as not to obstruct other road users.
  • Keep an eye on the weather and regularly check the weather forecast.

Winter camping can be an enriching experience that shows nature from a completely new perspective. With the right preparation and equipment, you can ensure that your adventure in the snow will be unforgettable.
